Principal's Letter

Hello Early College High School Family,

The 2018-19 school year is going to be an exciting year for ECHS. Over 40% of our students earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher this past semester qualifying them to be on the Principal's Honor Roll, an all-time percentage high! Our school was the only school in our school district to be recognized as a State of California Honor Roll High School and a U.S. News and World Report National High School this past spring for a third straight year. This past school year, we also earned a 6-year WASC accreditation term through June 2024!

Our school was able to add a Coastline Community College CyberPatriot course this past year which allowed students to learn skills in coding, programming and cybersecurity through computer-based simulations and practicums. A result of this program was we had teams created who competed against other schools statewide in competitions throughout the school year on selected weekends. In our first year, we had a team reach Gold status and another team reach Silver status.

This coming school year, we have added Art 2 and MESA (Math, Engineering and Science Achievement) as course offerings for our students as additional electives. In addition, Coastline Community College is looking to introduce a Theater Arts class for students in the spring semester.  Through Coastline Community College, we will be able to offer 15 college courses on our campus for our students whereby the new Theater Arts class would be a 16th course offering.

Lastly, ECHS is increasing the number of students who are accessing the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) elective class on our campus. Over two-thirds of our student body will be AVID students which will enable them to be better prepared for a 4-year college/university upon graduation.

I encourage our parents and families to be partners with us in the various ways you can help support our school. Your involvement is critical in enhancing your child's educational experience while in high school. Please consider taking part in our PTSA and our School Site Council. These are two excellent opportunities for you to be a direct contributor to our school's efforts in moving forward.

The 2018-19 school year promises to be a great experience for our students and we look forward to you being a part of the experience as a partner with our school!

Respectfully,
David M. Martinez, Ed.D.
