The mission of Early College High School is to prepare students academically and socially to contribute at the highest levels by becoming productive members of society.  To reach this goal, we have to depend on the partnership, communication, and support of our students, educators, parents, and community members.

Early College High School is fortunate to have a full-time high school counselor and a part-time college counselor through Coastline Community College.  These counselors work closely together to plan student’s high school and college curriculum and advise your student in his/her career and academic decisions.   At Early College High School, we feel that counseling and advisement is a key component to ensuring student success.

The Early College High School Counseling Plan

The objective of our counseling department is to provide a comprehensive and developmental program that addresses the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.  The role of the school counselor is to provide support in these areas to maximize each student’s potential to achieve academic and personal success.  The school counselor plays a vital role in the establishment of communication and support of the student, parents, educators, and community members to ensure that each student is prepared and equipped with the knowledge and skills to be a contributing and productive member of society.

Early College High School Believes our Counseling Department:

  • Is a program rather than a service, providing a vital link to the total instructional system in the school
  • Provides a consistent guidance curriculum based on the developmental and educational needs of every student
  • Ensures that the students who “need more” are provided with the necessary services
  • Is an integral part of the student’s total educational program
  • Includes parent/guardian(s), faculty, and community members
  • Shall reinforce the expected developmental stages of learning and social development
  • Will be aligned with the ASCA National Model and ASCA Ethical Guidelines
  • Will include counselor professional development as necessary to maintain quality programs in relation to the high school curriculum, A.A. degree, and admission to a four-year college
  • Shall be evaluated by counselors and administrators on stated objectives and related student achievement
