Principal's Letter

Hello Early College High School Family,

I am very much looking forward to what the 2017-18 school year has in store for our students. Once again, more than 1/3 of our students earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher this past semester qualifying them to be on the Principal's Honor Roll. Our school was once again recognized by the California Department of Education as a State of California Honor Roll High School and a U.S. News and World Report National Silver Medal High School this past spring.

Last year was a significant year as we celebrated the school's 10th anniversary and we moved into the newly renovated and modernized classrooms and offices in our building complex in August 2016. Over the course of the school year and this summer, much work has been done to enhance the landscaping so it is ready for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District's Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony held on the first day of school, August 9, 2017.

This past school year, we were able to add courses in acoustic Guitar and we plan to add Vocal Ensemble as a course offering to enhance our performing arts programs at ECHS to complement our third-year dance program. We are also very excited about partnering with Coastline Community College in introducing the CyberPatriot Program to our school where students where learn about coding, programming and cyber security. Through Coastline Community College, we will be able to offer 15 college courses on our campus for our students to enroll in this school year.

This coming school year is also an exciting year as we will be visited by a Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC) Visiting Committee in March 2018 as part of our re-accreditation process. This will be an opportunity to celebrate the great features and accomplishments of our school, while examining those areas we can continue to work on in order to provide the best educational experience for our students.

I encourage our parents and families to be partners with us in the various ways you can help support our school. Your involvement is critical in enhancing your child's educational experience while in high school. Please consider taking part in our PTSA and our School Site Council. These are two excellent opportunities for you to be a direct contributor to our school's efforts in moving forward.

The 2017-18 school year promises to be a great experience for our students and we look forward to you being a part of ride!
